Former Mitek CEO Jim DeBello announces bid to unseat Rep. Scott Peters in 2020
With the March primary more than four months away, Rep. Scott Peters has finally drawn a Republican challenger.
Local businessman Jim DeBello, former CEO of publicly traded software company Mitek Systems, announced Thursday he’s mounting a bid to oust Peters, a four-term incumbent representing the 52nd Congressional District, which consists of mostly coastal and central San Diego.
DeBello joins two others challenging Peters: Democrat Nancy Casady, a member of the State Food and Agriculture Board, and no party preference candidate Ryan Cunningham, a financial adviser.
“I’m not a career politician,” DeBello told about 60 supporters at Tuna Harbor Park, near the U.S.S. Midway Museum in downtown San Diego Thursday. “I’m an independent thinker and practical, 21st Century Republican with sensible solutions for our future.”
